Restoration and Renovation

The Observatory and its fifty acres of grounds are currently undergoing restoration and renovation in order to prepare them for public access and ready Yerkes for another 125 years of science and discovery.

While we hope you share our excitement at the exciting plans in store for the Observatory, the work underway means we are currently not open to the public for visitation or tours. We plan to begin offering limited tours later in 2021, and a fuller slate of public hours and programs in 2022.

In the meantime, you are welcome to park outside the gates on Observatory Place and walk those portions of the grounds that remain accessible; however, please observe the safety signage and please do not enter the fenced construction areas, which are clearly marked.

To receive future updates and more information, you can subscribe to our email updates here, or follow us on Facebook and Instagram, both of which you'll see us begin using more in the near future.

We hope to see you at Yerkes soon!
