Restoration and Renovation

The Observatory and its fifty acres of grounds are currently undergoing restoration and renovation in order to prepare them for public access and ready Yerkes for another 125 years of science and discovery.

While we hope you share our excitement at the exciting plans in store for the Observatory, the work underway means the Observatory building currently is not open to the public for visitation or tours. We plan to begin offering limited tours in April 2022, and a fuller slate of public hours and programs for the summer of 2022.

In the meantime, you are welcome to visit and park in the Observatory's newly-built parking lot (L2 vehicle chargers are available, powered by our new rooftop solar array!) and walk those portions of the grounds that remain accessible; however, please observe the safety signage and please do not enter any fenced construction areas. We do offer behind-the-scenes tours of the ongoing building restoration for donors at $1,000 or more. If you would like to donate (in any amount), you can do so on our website, please click here. We are grateful for your support in any amount!

To receive future updates and more information, you can subscribe to our email updates here, or follow us on Facebook and Instagram, both of which you'll see us begin using more in the near future.

We hope to see you at Yerkes soon!
